Although there are many different forms of cancer that you can get your body, cancer of the pancreas is one of the more difficult that you can get because it is difficult to detect early and often difficult to treat.  As a matter of fact, this particular type of cancer is not only difficult to detect but once it is detected it is very difficult for anything to be done about it.  It is one of the leading causes of death from cancer in individuals out of all the various types of cancers that they can have.  That doesn't mean, however, that you are totally without options.  One of the best things that you can do is to recognize the cancer of the pancreas early so that it can be treated as soon as possible.

The pancreas is an organ which lies behind the lower stomach.  Because it is hidden behind a variety of different organs, it is often difficult to detect this particular form of cancer through medical means.  Not only that, the symptoms of pancreas cancer can often be difficult to detect whenever it is in its earliest stages.  It doesn't mean that the symptoms are not there but many times they are simply shrugged off as being nothing or thought of as something that would go away.  As the disease begins its advanced stages, however, the symptoms may begin to show up.  Unfortunately, it can be too late for an individual to recognize the pancreas cancer symptoms at this particular time.

If you have cancer of the pancreas, the symptoms will generally come on in one of the following different ways.  First of all, you may recognize a sharp pain that seems to radiate in your upper abdominal area, the area in which the pancreas resides.  This pain will typically shoot into your back and many individuals are able to relieve the pain by slightly leaning forward.  Other symptoms of cancer of the pancreas include such things as jaundice which is a yellowing of the skin or perhaps the whites of the eyes.  Because of obstructions caused by cancer at the head of the pancreas, weight loss is often recognized as a result of lowered digestive processes.  It may also be that you will experience a low appetite or depression as a result of this type of cancer.

The cancer that is found in the pancreas is typically recognized in the part that aids in the digestion of food.  As a matter of fact, it is found in this part of the pancreas about 95% of the time.  Another area of the pancreas which is responsible for the production of hormones, such as insulin, is rarely affected by this form of pancreatic cancer.  Although it is typically unknown why they cancer will attack only this one part of the pancreas, it may be the fact that we feed ourselves the wrong foods which can cause cancer in a variety of different places in our body.

There are some treatments that are available for cancer of the pancreas.  Although surgery is not typically an option that is able to totally remove the cancer, there are some others which can help in some cases.  Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and a variety of different drug therapies are available for this particular disease.  There are also some types of therapy and treatments which are still in the testing process which you may be able to take part in.  Some of these treatments are showing real promise in helping individuals to live with and overcome this particular type of disease.
